Identity

Comprised of 290 congregations in Missouri (not including the Greater Kansas City Region) and in counties of Illinois surrounding St. Louis, the Mid-America Region seeks to serve members and individuals as we grow in Christ, live out the great commandment and seek to fulfill the Great Commission of our Lord.

Our work is organized into a Central Regional Ministry and four Area Ministries working together to connect, nurture, challenge and affirm and serve the individuals and congregations.

Ministries include the Rickman Center, Leader Development, Pro-Reconciliation/Anti-Racism Team, Global Mission partnerships, New Church Development, Church Transformation Ministry and efforts for church unity and peace.

Symbol

The chalice and St. Andrews Cross, symbol of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was adopted by the churchs General Assembly in 1971.

The chalice points of At. Andrew, national cross of Scotland, focuses attention on the Prebyterian roots of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Both branches of the movement that gradually grew together on the American frontier and developed into the Disciples of Christ were spawned in Presbyterianism and many of the ideas of the Campbells were developed in Scotland.

The symbol suggests in addition to St. Andrews Cross a more traditional cross being carried. St. Andrew also has been identified with the laity and with evangelism, both of which are prominent emphases of the Christian Church. The red color signifies vitality, spirit and sacrifice.

Preamble

As members of the Christian Church, We confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God, and proclaim him Lord and Savior of the World.

In Christ's name and by his grace we accept our mission of witness and service to all people. We rejoice in God, maker of heaven and earth, and in the covenant of love which binds us to God and one another.

Through baptism into Christ we enter into newness of life and are made one with the whole people of God. In the communion of the Holy Spirit we are joined together in discipleship and in obedience to Christ.

At the table of the Lord we celebrate with thanksgiving the saving acts and presence of Christ.

Within the universal church we receive the gift of ministry and the light of scripture. In the bonds of Christian faith we yield ourselves to God that we may serve the One whose kingdom has no end. Blessing, glory and honor be to God forever. Amen.
