Mission and Unity The Commission on Mission and Unity exists to call the whole church to the goal of visible unity in one faith and to keep alive the hope of God’s justice and mercy for all people. The Commission seeks to call and empower individuals, congregations and the whole church to responsible social and ecumenical action. The Commission focuses on helping individuals, congregations, Areas and Region live out the Great and Good Commandments. Specific functions of the Commission include: - Reaffirming and strengthening the historic plea of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) for the oneness of the church under the common Lordship of Jesus Christ.
- Soliciting and providing information, resources and strategic options to individuals, congregations and the Regional Church on concerns related to justice, peace and the unity of God’s people.
- Promoting and supporting agencies within the Mid-America Region similarly engaged in redemptive action.
- Advocating for the full participation of all Disciples of Christ in the process of discerning to be the church in the world, regardless of opinions on particular issues.
- Continuing and expanding the work of the fund for Reconciliation through budget allocation, annual project evaluation, and encouragement of new efforts.
- Supporting, maintaining and encouraging relationships with and between individuals, congregations and Regional Church with Disciples Division of Overseas Ministries and the Common Global Mission Board.
- Supporting, maintaining and encouraging participation of individuals, congregations and Regional Church in efforts of peace and justice as they may be presented by Disciple Home Missions.
