Regional AssemblyThe Mid-America Region holds a Regional Assembly every two years, hosted by a selected congregation from one of the four Areas within the Mid-America Region. The Regional Assembly is provides a way for the whole Region to gather together to worship and praise God through music and song, to learn together by attending workshops and by working together through various activities. The adminstrative work of the Region is conducted in daily business sessions, where ministry group reports are given. The host Area creates a Planning Committee of Disciples throughout the Area to create a theme, plan the worship and find the guest speakers and generally oversee the Assembly. This group meets regularly the year prior to the Assembly. The 2006 Fall Regional Assembly on October 13-15, was hosted by the Southeast Gateway Area and met at St. Charles Convention Center. General Minister and President Dr. Sharon Watkins was one of the feautured speakers, along with Dr. Michael Kinnamon, Dr. Danny Stewart and Rev. Larry Hill. The 2008 Regional Assembly will be October 10-12, at the Clarion Hotel in Springfield, Missouri. 2006 Regional Assembly Click for the Photo Gallery 2008 Regional Assembly Guest Speakers | | Todd Adams Associate General Minister and Vice-President of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) | Dr. Frank Thomas Mississippi Boulevard Disciples Church, Memphis, Tennessee | | | Vance Moore Director, Westside Mission, New Orleans, Louisiana | Dr. Teresa Hornsby Assistant Professor of Religion and Director of the Women and Gender Studies Program,Drury University, Springfield, Missouri |
| The 2008 Mid-America Regional Assembly Greetings Fellow Disciples: I have exciting news to share with all Mid-America Region Disciples. The Regional Assembly of 2008 will be held at the Clarion Hotel in Springfield on October 10-12. We hope that you can make time for this special event that happens only every two years. The linked brochure has the information regarding registration, schedule and costs. It is important to let us know early if you have special physical or dietary needs so that accommodations can be made. Individuals can make their hotel reservation by calling the telephone number on the brochure. Be sure to mention that you will be a part of our Assembly to receive our special rate. The worship services will be praises to God with a variety of traditional, contemporary, roots and progressive music being used. The theme of the Assembly is Holy Hands-Faithful Feet - Living out the Gospel. In keeping with our theme, we need your Holy hands and Faithful feet to Live out the Gospel. We are asking, if your congregation will be coming in a van or bus, would you be willing to transport people on Saturday to a local Springfield mission site or if needed, to Drury University? Also, if your congregation has been on a recent mission trip, please let us know by e-mailing or sending a letter to the Regional office. Also in keeping with our theme, we are asking that each church bring items for Missouri kits to be given to the Festival of Sharing. We will assemble those materials into kits at the assembly site and then the Sedalia church members will transport the completed kits to Sedalia (site of Festival). Each Area is being assigned a kit and we are asking that each church in that area bring those kit items to the Assembly. (Kit items are listed on a separate sheet included in this mailing.) The dining and entertainment on Saturday night will be a delicious buffet dinner of ribs and chicken, followed by a presentation from the Drury Choral group and a modern mystery play through the campus ministry The House from Missouri State University. Please copy and distribute all this information to your church families. Be sure to watch this Mid-America Web site page www.mid-americadisciples.org/regional-assembly.htm for any updates. The Assembly planning committee has been working hard the last 18 months to make sure that this will be a special time in your life. My sincere hope it will be made a priority to share the information with ALL members of their church, including the young. Bring the whole family there is a special fee limit for families! Its an exciting time in our church when we can get together and share our life within the churches across the Region. Its much like our own family's reunion time at holidays or special occasions. If one family member is unable to be present, there is an empty spot in everyone's heart. Please don't be the empty spot in our heart. Come join us and bring others with you!
