Christian Church under the Broom Tree Opens

The newest SEGA congregation, Christian Church under the Broom Tree, began holding services in December 2009. Being led by Rev. Dr. Jae Ha Lee, the fledgling group is nesting at Florissant Valley Christian Church, but is already reaching far beyond those walls with its ministry.

In addition to early morning worship (at 5:50 am) each weekday, the congregation meets for worship on Wednesday evenings and Sunday mornings.

Sunday afternoons find the group downtown ministering to the homeless. They take to the streets providing soup, snacks, coffee, and blankets, and Pastor Lee preaches a sermon. Other focuses of the church are Bible study, counseling for the local Korean Christian, and becoming financially independent.

The Church has taken its name from 1 Kings chapter 19 where Elijah, alone and afraid, sits under a broom tree and asks God to take his life. Instead of perishing there, he is visited by an angel and is given food, drink, and strength for the Pastor Jae Ha Lee (pictured below, third from left) was ordained by the Korean Presbyterian Church in Korea having studied Theology, as well as psychoanalysis, there. He went on to earn a D.Min. in Christian Counseling from Midwest Theological Seminary, and an M.A. in Counselor Education from Missouri Baptist University. He has served as a senior pastor and youth pastor, has taught Bible and Christian Counseling in seminary, and describes his main ministry as a pastoral/healing ministry. Please support Christian Church under the Broom Tree with your prayers.

Please Help us in our Much Needed Ministry

Florissant Valley Christian Church and Christian Church under the Broom Tree: Each Sunday afternoon, Rev. Janice and Pastor Lee, and various members of both of our congregations meet at the corner of 14th St. and Locust at the Downtown Public Library at 4:00p.m. We lead 70-75 people in 3 worship songs, then using a portable microphone, Pastor Lee and/or Rev. Walters preach a short message. Then the families and individuals line up to receive food and beverages. They gather for about an hour. Those from our church and those from Pastor Lees church, fan out and meet the people, learn of their circumstances, and counsel with them as best we can. We have a chef that takes the food we gather and makes a delicious meal for the homeless people gathered that day.

On Easter Sunday we will also be adding the opportunity for those who desire baptism to come forward and give their lives to Jesus Christ. Please continue to pray for this vital ministry.
