Woodhaven Ministries

Woodhaven was founded in 1964 as a service unit of the National Benevolent Association of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Woodhaven provides community-based supported living services for 108 men and women with developmental disabilities in Mid-Missouri. They live in more than 45 traditional and accessible homes and apartments in established neighborhoods with the assistance of Woodhaven's professional direct care staff. A Day Program provides additional opportunities for socializing and community access for individuals who do not work during the day through activities like tours, volunteering, bowling, Bible study, crafts and much more.

In 2007, Woodhaven was accepted as a ministry partner by the Council of Areas of the Mid-America Region to ensure its continued relationship with the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) throughout potential changes by its parent organization. Woodhaven places a great value on its association with the church, as it provides roots and a context in Christian love for Woodhaven's mission.

Churches throughout the Mid-America Region and the nation support Woodhaven through the Disciples Mission Fund, direct outreach gifts, CWF/DWM projects, clipping Campbell's and Best Choice barcodes, mission trips and prayer. Through its connection with the church, Woodhaven is a national leader in services for individuals with disabilities, consistently receiving the highest level of accreditation for its programs and winning awards like the Jackie Devenport-Orton Outstanding Provider Award, which it won in 2007 from the Central Missouri Regional Office of the Department of Mental Health.
