What a wonderful first Silver Chalice Lunch & Learn at First Christian Church of Republic!
We welcomed 20 community members to this free event, where Compassus joined us to share valuable information about Palliative Care and Hospice Care.
Our presenters helped us understand the differences between palliative care and hospice care, when each may be appropriate, and the many ways community members can become involved through volunteering. They shared a powerful reminder about the difference a hospice volunteer can make: “The last good thing that may happen in a person’s life is a hospice volunteer.”
We also learned about the Hospice Veteran to Veteran Volunteer Program, which connects veteran volunteers with veterans receiving hospice care—a beautiful way to honor service, build connection, and provide companionship during an important season of life.
Of course, no lunch and learn would be complete without lunch! Our guests enjoyed pulled pork sandwiches, coleslaw, chips, and a cookie while sharing conversation and fellowship.
Most importantly, we had the opportunity to listen to our community. Guests shared ideas for future Lunch & Learn topics, helping us shape events that address real needs and provide helpful information.
A huge thank you to Compassus for joining us and to everyone who came out to learn, share, and connect! This is exactly what the Silver Chalice ministry is about—bringing people together, learning together, and finding ways to care for one another and our community.
Thank you to FCC’s pastor Rev. Lee Young for this story and photos.
